Digital Malaysia Masterplan to be rid of middle income trap

NEW YORK: A Digital Malaysia Masterplan is in the offing for the country to harvest key opportunities arising from the global shift from analogue to digital.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced this at the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) inaugural meeting which he chaired at the New York Academy of Sciences yesterday.
The meeting was attended by 45 renowned scientists and experts in various fields who recommended three “quick win projects” for Malaysia to be lifted out of the middle income trap.
The first involved starting a biomass industry utilising available technology for oil palm waste to be turned into feedstock. This would be used to power electricity generation plants, make sugar and certain types of vaccines.
